Societal Determinants of Health

Cultural Determinants of Health Louise Matthews Determinants of Health Mentor: Liz Footsoy Presentation This exposition will be taking a gander at how an individual’s wellbeing is resolved inside society. Disease transmission specialists who study the example of illness, have discovered that not all gatherings have similar chances to accomplish great wellbeing (Naidoo, 2009). There are numerous components that impact a person’s wellbeing, for example, where an individual lives, the condition of the earth wherein they live, work, pay, instruction levels and connections that individual has with their loved ones. Utilizing work for instance. On the off chance that an individual is in work they will get a pay, which can be utilized to finance food, a home and bills. In this way they have haven, warming and a better than average possibility of a consistent solid life. In examination if an individual is jobless they would not get a salary to finance food, a home and bills. This would detrimentally affect their wellbeing, truly as well as intellectually. Money related concerns and stress could without much of a stretch reason psychological well-being issues, for example, discouragement and the individual would have low degrees of confidence. They are additionally in danger of living in clammy lodging which could cause long haul respiratory infection (Deat on, 2003). This article will have a top to bottom glance at how pay and instruction impact the ways of life of various degrees of social class. It will at that point look how this decides the soundness of these gatherings in the public arena. Measurable sources will be utilized as proof to show how death rates are affected by high and low degrees of salary and training in England contrasted with America. The paper will at long last be made to a determination, utilizing all the data and measurable realities found all through the composition of this bit of work. A brilliant presentation †great utilization of sources. Principle Body[i1] In the 1900’s the significant reasons for death were irresistible maladies, for example, Tuberculosis and Influenza however with progresses in science and enhancements in medication, passings from these kind of ailments have been drastically decreased. As irresistible have been dispensed with, different diseases have supplanted them as driving reasons for early demise in Western culture. In cutting edge the primary driver of death are known as constant way of life related conditions, for example, ceaseless coronary illness, respiratory ailment, stoutness, diabetes and certain types of malignant growth (Mc Graw Hill, 2014). These sorts of illnesses are generally regular among lower financial gatherings. The way of life this gathering of society lead that causes these sort of infections. Things like unnecessary drinking, smoking; low degrees of physical movement and elevated levels of pressure, wretchedness and less than stellar eating routine are for the most part factors that contribute towards sick wellbeing (Naidoo, 2009). Cardio vascular illness in England is among the most elevated on the planet, being the reason for death in 40% of men and 38% of ladies (Mayes, 1991). For an individual to have great wellbeing and prosperity they have to approach new products of the soil every day so as to eat well. Customary physical movement is basic for sickness avoidance and wellbeing advancement. Great wellness diminishes the danger of interminable maladies, for example, coronary illness. Great wellness likewise adds to the psychological prosperity of an individual, causing them to feel great about themselves and improving their confidence and expanding vitality levels. Less than 40% of grown-ups meet physical action rules and this for the most part decreases with age (Mc Graw Hill, 2014). Individuals in higher social class bunches live more and appreciate preferred wellbeing over burdened gatherings, for instance a man in an expert activity is probably going to live seven years longer than a man in an untalented or manual activity. Doubtlessly if a man was jobless the future would decrease much further (Naidoo,2009). The significant imbalance in social class is riches, salary and instruction. Numerous financial specialists contend that preferable taught individuals live longer over more unfortunate, less instructed individuals. This is on the grounds that with great training, comes great information and comprehension and stands knowledgeable individuals in better situations to land more generously compensated positions, bringing them great pay and riches. Which means they can manage the cost of better things throughout everyday life, similar to great new food and lodging which thusly ought to stretch their future. A differed, sound eating regimen is basic in advancing great wellbeing. An individual needs to eat to endure, food supplies vitality for development and development, Protein for muscles and dietary fiber for roughage. A low admission of dietary fiber is proposed to be the reason for some infections, for example, obstruction, inside malignant growth, coronary illness and varicose veins (Mayes, 1991).[LF3] The sort of lodging an individual lives in additionally massively affects that person’s wellbeing. On the off chance that somebody lives in a clammy free house, arranged in a region of low contamination levels, they ought to have lesser possibility of experiencing respiratory issues than somebody who does live in moist conditions. An individual from a lower class gathering, that must choose the option to live in moist lodging on account of salary is in danger of sick wellbeing. With clammy lodging comes a wide range of issues for an individual’s wellbeing. It can cause respiratory issues and diseases, sensitivities and asthma, nature can likewise influence the invulnerable framework (NHS, 2014). More than one million youngsters in England live in terrible lodging. Poor lodging conditions increment the danger of extreme sick wellbeing or incapacity by up to 25% during youth and early adulthood. Respiratory issues, for example, hacking and wheezing, implies losing rest, limited physical action and missing school. In this manner experiencing childhood in poor lodging can have a drawn out effect on a child’s life chances as a result of the impact it has on their learning and instruction, lower instructive fulfillment, more noteworthy probability of joblessness and neediness (Harker, 2006). It is imagined that better instructed individuals are increasingly ready to comprehend and utilize wellbeing data and are better positioned to profit by the medicinal services framework. The information that the higher class individuals have taken in keeps them from participating in unsafe practices like hitting the bottle hard and smoking, similar to the lower financial, less instructed individuals do.[LF4] Both instruction and pay advance wellbeing in various manners, as expressed before great training makes it simpler to utilize new wellbeing data and innovations and salary makes life simpler for the people, diminishing pressure and stress monetarily. Not agonizing over kid care costs and having the option to continue loosening up family occasions, giving them a superior personal satisfaction and better condition of psychological well-being. Diminishing feelings of anxiety is similarly as significant as a sound eating routine and exercise system in lessening the danger of constant coronary illness and certain types of malignant growth. Urban areas with higher normal instruction or higher normal pay have lower death rates (Deaton, 2003). Youngsters naturally introduced to knowledgeable, high pay families will likewise be given the most obvious opportunity at a splendid, sound future. They will understand the significance of training and alongside instruction comes power and the capacity to gain an OK pay. This is clearly not the situation for kids naturally introduced to less taught less fortunate families. These kids show up at adulthood with more unfortunate wellbeing and more unfortunate instructive achievement. This has a monstrous thump on impact to that individual’s capacity to gain themselves a decent pay in adulthood. These people will likewise endure significant levels of pressure and low degrees of confidence which will negatively affect their psychological wellness and prosperity. A phenomenal conversation †all around done! End It is clear toward the finish of this report not every person is given an equivalent possibility at a solid life. Individuals don't get interminable ailments since they are unfortunate; they get these sicknesses in light of the way of life where they lead. These individuals may not decide to lead these ways of life; it very well may be a direct result of reasons out of their control why they are in these circumstances. Absence of instruction and pay would all be able to affect upon their wellbeing and way of life. Decent instruction is the structure square to a sound life. Training builds a person’s possibility of employability and capacity to adapt to numerous circumstances, permitting the individual not to get overpowered with pressure which could detrimentally affect their emotional well-being. Work gives pay and in this manner access to wellbeing advancing assets, for example, an assortment of new products of the soil, great lodging and warming. Individuals need to take instruction all the more significantly since the beginning to expand the entire of society’s futures and to close the hole between various social classes. Exceptionally clear, definitive end anyway it is critical to consider factors, for example, a solid harmony between nourishments, beverages and exercise. A few people who practice exorbitantly when they are youthful will frequently endure sick wellbeing further down the road and so on. Generally speaking a great report †all around done! Analysis of Wants by Grace Paley

Examination of 'Needs' by Grace Paley Needs by American essayist Grace Paley (1922 - 2007) is the initial story from the writers 1974 assortment, Enormous Changes ultimately. It later showed up in her 1994 The Collected Stories, and it has been broadly anthologized. At around 800 words, the story could be viewed as a work of blaze fiction. You can peruse it for nothing at Biblioklept. Plot Sitting on the means of the local library, the storyteller sees her ex. He follows her into the library, where she returns two Edith Wharton books she has had for a long time and pays the fine. As the ex-life partners talk about their alternate points of view on their marriage and its disappointment, the storyteller looks at a similar two books she has quite recently returned. The ex reports that he will most likely purchase a sailboat. He advises her, I generally needed a boat. [†¦] But you didnt need anything. After they isolated, his comment troubles her to an ever increasing extent. She mirrors that she doesnt need things, similar to a boat, however she wants to be a specific sort of individual and to have specific sorts of connections. Toward the finish of the story, she restores the two books to the library. Entry of Time As the storyteller restores the long-past due library books, she wonders that she doesnt see how time passes. Her ex gripes that she never welcomed the Bertrams to supper, and in her reaction to him, her feeling of time falls totally. Paley composes: That is conceivable, I said. However, on the off chance that you recollect: first, my dad was wiped out that Friday, at that point the kids were conceived, at that point I had those Tuesday-night gatherings, at that point the war started. We didnt appear to know them any longer. Her viewpoint begins at the degree of a solitary day and one little social commitment, yet it rapidly clears out to a time of years and earth shattering occasions like the births of her kids and the beginning of war. At the point when she outlines it along these lines, keeping library books for a long time appears the squint of an eye. The Wants in Wants The ex boasts that he is at last getting the boat he generally needed, and he whines that the storyteller didnt need anything. He advises her, [A]s for you, its past the point of no return. Youll consistently need nothing. The sting of this remark just increments after the ex has left and the storyteller is left to contemplate it. In any case, what she understands is that she wants something, however the things she needs look in no way like boats. She says: I need, for example, to be an alternate individual. I need to be the lady who brings these two books in about fourteen days. I need to be the successful resident who changes the educational system and addresses the Board of Estimate on the difficulties of this dear urban center.â [†¦] I needed to have been hitched always to one individual, my ex or my current one. What she needs is to a great extent impalpable, and a lot of it is out of reach. In any case, while it might be funny to wish to be an alternate individual, there is still expectation that she can build up certain traits of the distinctive individual she wishes to be. The Down Payment When the storyteller has paid her fine, she quickly recovers the altruism of the administrator. She is pardoned her past shortcomings in the very same measure that her ex will not excuse her. To put it plainly, the administrator acknowledges her as an alternate individual. The storyteller could, in the event that she needed, rehash precisely the same mix-up of saving precisely the same books for an additional eighteen years. All things considered, she doesnt see how time passes. At the point when she looks at the indistinguishable books, she has all the earmarks of being rehashing all her equivalent examples. In any case, its likewise conceivable that shes allowing herself another opportunity to get things right. She may have been headed to being an alternate individual some time before her exes gave his searing appraisal of her. She takes note of that toward the beginning of today - a similar morning she returned the books to the library - she saw that the little sycamores the city had groggily planted several years prior to the children were conceived had come that day to the prime of their lives. She saw time passing; she chose to accomplish something else. Returning library books is, obviously, for the most part emblematic. Its somewhat simpler than, for example, turning into a viable resident. However, similarly as the ex has put an initial installment on the boat - the thing he needs - the storytellers restoring the library books is an up front installment on turning into the kind of individual she needs to be.

Teen Suicide Essay - 1224 Words

The rates of suicides in teens have been rising more and more over the past few years; with an increase of over 300% in adolescents since the 1950s. (Miller 2009) Teens are basically crying out for our helps, but it seems that we are ignoring them. But why? Do we not care? Or do we even know what signs to be looking for? ANd average of 1,800 young people take their own lives and almost 85,000 are hospitalized for attempts (CDC, 2008). With the statistics being this high we need to take some action. Knowing and recognizing the signs of suicide, depression are just one of the many ways you can help prevent suicide and/or suicide attempts. Some of the warning signs include: rage, acting reckless or participating in risky activities they†¦show more content†¦Not only is it showing them how to do it, it is showing them that they can become â€Å"popular† for doing such acts to one’s self. Warning signs for self-mutilation can be wearing covering clothing when it is warm out, and not letting people touch where they might be cutting themselves. It was once believed that people who self injure were just doing it for attention but recent studies have proven otherwise. A quote from the research from the CASE study in Europe stated that â€Å"The findings of this study show that adolescents who deliberately self-harm often report both cry of pain and cry for help motives. The majority of youngsters wanted to get relief from a terrible state of mind and/ or wanted to die with their act of self-harm. Although the study shows that there is also a cry for help, this type of motive seems to be less prominent than the cry of pain, which is inconsistent with the popular notion that adolescents deliberate self-harm is ‘only’ a cry for help (Scoliers, 2009). With this knowledge we need to make sure we help the children who are not only doing it to die or punish themselves but for the ones who are doing it for attention which is less than a quarter of the time. Once we have been able to notice the some of the signs the next step is to figure out what is the best way to approach this problem. The Dairy Of Lady Murasaki Essays - The Tale Of Genji, Fujiwara Clan

The Dairy of Lady Murasaki Early in history, the male gender has been the dominant force. The male aristocracies has been responsible for producing the writing, arts, and architecture, "which is traditionally consider to be humanity's historical legacy." However, the "silence voice" will not remain silent, because historians have sought them out. Due to the fact, historians have sought the "silence voice" we have been able to learn more about women history. One way they made it possible for us to learn about it is by writing books such as The Dairy of Lady Murasaki. The Dairy of Lady Murasaki is a paramount historical document that marks one of the major turning points in women's history. The book has great insights into the 11th century of women experiences at the court of the Japanese emperor. This is significant because during the height of the Heian Period (794-1192), which Lady Murasaki lived, Japanese had no writing system of their own. Also, it was considered improper for a woman to know how to write Chinese, the writing system Japanese used then. Men were not happy. They wanted to "keep the language of bureaucracy in male's hands." This however, did not stop the women of Japan from striving for success. Women went on and developed the written Japanese language. This was the first attempt woman made in Japanese history, and in their quest to become the "sound voices" instead of the "silence voice." One can compare these women to the famous black man Frederick Douglass. Frederick Douglass had to struggle to learn to read because his slave master did not want him to. Nevertheless, we saw that the more they tried to prevent him from learning, the more he strove for success, just as these women. The Japanese Women did not stop after the development of the written Japanese language. They went on to write poems, prose, and dairies, thus proving to the males that they are capable of writing; also that no one could hold them back from reaching success. Lady Murasaki was one of these women that strove for success. She was the Empress companion and tutor. She had knowledge and court values that she inherited from her father. Due to this she was able to handle her position very well. Though she held her position well, as a consequence of her gender her experience of the court life was different from those of males. She couldn't discuss what she knew about what was going on in the court because of fear of being known as a gossip. We see this when she states, "now if I go and describing for you in this manner, I am sure I will get the reputation for being a gossip, especially if it concerns those close to me. It is so difficult to discuss people I meet every day and I should avoid commenting on anyone about whom I have second thoughts." One can say she feels this way because women were mainly known for gossiping and nothing else in those days. She wanted to know for more then just that. That's why even though Lady Murasaki knew what alm ost everything that was taking place in the court, she kept it between her and her dairy. As one sees, religion is not something that Lady Murasaki paid much attention to. She did not see Shinto and Buddhism as "being traditions in any way commensurate." Her reason for that was Buddhism entered the Japanese court system the merging Indian and Chinese religion was considered unoriginal. There are however many types of Buddhism and ritual side we see in her dairy. "Murasaki herself must have been well aware that Buddhist rituals she saw at court and the path of salvation through the worship of Amida were a root connected." Amidism has "provided the major source of personal solace for these women." Shinto was not an actual system in any sense. It was rather the practice of certain rituals connected with fertility, avoidance of pollution, and pacification of the spirits of myriad gods. Therefore, it was not linked to matters of private concerns. In essence, I accept that such a thing, as "fundamentally gendered experience of history" exists. After reading the diary,

Wuthering Heights and Hindleys Essay Example

Wuthering Heights and Hindleys Essay Example Wuthering Heights and Hindleys Essay Wuthering Heights and Hindleys Essay Essay Topic: Wuthering Heights Heathcliffs desire to fulfill his wicked needs of revenge due to his mistreatment at a young age reveals a change of character. Following the humiliation Heathcliff is forced to encounter due to Hindleys cruel actions, his only solution is to take revenge on Hindley for his abuse: I only wish I knew the best way! Let me alone, and Ill plan it out: while Im thinking of that, I dont feel pain' (Bronte 69). Heathcliff reaches a point where he can no longer handle the abuse of others. He instead, reveals to Nelly and the reader the bitter feelings that resign inside of him. He is ready for revenge. This event illustrates the character change Heathcliff encounters. Previously being the boy dismissing bullying from others, he turns into the most desperate person for revenge. Slowly isolating himself from the rest of the people, Heathcliff eventually takes the extreme path, and leaves Wuthering Heights. Shortly following his return form his long disappearance, Heathcliff has returned as a well educated and civilized man. Nelly further describes his appearance: He had grown a tall, athletic, well-formed man His countenance was much older in expression, it looked intelligent, A half-civilized ferocity lurked yet in the depressed brows, and eyes full of black fire, but it was subdued (Bronte 109). Upon his return to Wuthering Heights, Heathcliffs appearance is completely changed, but the struggle is figuring out whether his heart is also changed for the better. He seems to appear as an intellectual, rich, and well mannered individual. This behaviour appears rather strange coming from a man whose past is full of hate and injustice. The reader later realizes that behind Heathcliffs new appearance is a dark soul ready to take revenge, slowly and painfully. Furthermore, ones appearances narrate a story, but their hearts is what counts. Finally, Heathcliffs corrupt actions towards his wife and son due to mistreatment during his childhood leading him to revenge, also illustrates an evolution of character. Having been informed of Isabellas love for him, Heathcliff decides to present her with the favour of his consent: Now, as soon as he beheld her, his first precaution was to take a sweeping survey of the house-front There was another rapid glance at the house, and supposing himself unseen, the scoundrel had the impudence to embrace her (Bronte 126). Heathcliffs favour towards Isabella carried a negative intent, in which Catherine and Nelly quickly came to realize. Knowing that turning Isabella into his wife would tear Catherine apart and devastate Edgar, he does so willingly. This is just the beginning of a journey of corruption on behalf of Heathcliff. He goes on to marry Isabella, only to destruct her life with cruelty and hate, as a form of revenge to Edgar. But more is to come. After bringing Linton, his son, into Wuthering Heights, Heathcliff involves him in his revengeful plans: Papa wants us to be married, he continued, after sipping some of the liquid. And he knows your papa wouldnt let us marry now; and hes afraid of my dying, if we wait; so we are to be married in the morning, and you are to stay here all night; and, if you do as he wishes, you shall return home next say, and take me with you' (Bronte 310). Years later, following Isabellas death and his son, Lintons, birth, Heathcliff decides he wants to have Linton living with him in his home, where he belongs. Yet again, Heathcliff only appears to be doing a kind act, but his intentions prove the reader wrong. Forcing his son Linton into marrying Cathy, Catherines daughter, Heathcliff knows that her home, the Grange, will fall into Lintons hands. Lintons death being near due to his illness, predicts the Grange would then be in Heathcliffs possession, making him successful in attaining the fortunes of both his enemies, Hindley and Edgar. In doing so, he corrupts the life of his own son, proving himself to being a heartless and selfish man. Heathcliff in the end takes advantage of his power in order to lead the innocent in to suffering, proving that he had been impacted as a child, having the urge to release his anger on his enemies loved ones. In conclusion, mistreatment during the childhood of an individual, leading them to seek revenge, reveals character development, as shown in the novel, Wuthering Heights, by Emily Bronte. Through Catherine and Hindleys mistreatment of Heathcliff leading him to revenge in the future demonstrates character development; Heathcliffs desire to fulfill his wicked needs of revenge due to unfortunate events encountered at a young age, also reveals a change of character; lastly, Heathcliffs corruption towards his wife and son due to mistreatment encountered during his childhood leading him to revenge, illustrates an evolution of character. Therefore, one would conclude that this novel is indeed a compound of vulgar depravity and unnatural horrors (Unknown Author), proving that the actions of one individual can shape the actions of another.

Criminal Justice Organizations- Assignment 4 Essay

Criminal Justice Organizations- Assignment 4 - Essay Example These techniques that are used have a positive effect when it comes to making and implementation of policing. For most policy makers, they know that implementing such mandatory sentencing laws ensure that repeat offenders are punished which leads to a decrease in the level of crime. The mandatory sentencing laws are effective, but this is dependent on a country or a state. When it comes to principles of organization effectiveness leaders have to motivate employees to change if they want change (Stojkovic, Kalinich & Klofas, 2014). Juries in courts in certain countries such a United States are not involved in determining the mandatory penalties that apply when there people who are convicted. The â€Å"get tough† approach and mandatory sentencing laws are largely not effective because they also lead to populated prisons because the minorities are always disproportionally targeted. As noted on page 425, of Stojkovic, Kalinich and Klofas’ book, there is problem of overcrowding in prisons due to these laws. For mandatory sentencing laws to be effective without leading to overpopulation in prisons, all people should be targeted for crimes and not only the minorities. The effect of these laws on the society is evident, not only in minority societies in United States. The public is now of these effects on families of the poor people, even when the accused they have committed non-violent offenses. Sadly, these are laws affect the poor communities in America and not the upper and middle class societies even when this group can easily change these laws. If I had the power and influence to change these laws I would first ensure that the public, whether these are people in poor, rich or middle-class communities are all educated. The public should be aware that the three-strike laws only contribute to increased rates of homicides and other problems. The rates at which the minority males are imprisoned are extremely high. In addition, there so many

The Role of Social Media as a PR Tool Research Proposal

The Role of Social Media as a PR Tool - Research Proposal Example The paper tells that the choice of the social media platform as a component of the public relation strategy for VIVA is based on strong grounds. It does not only bring together friends, families, colleagues and acquaintances together but also strangers in remarkable number through its networking characteristic. Â  It is important to note that, in Bahrain, Internet is available to 961,228 users or about 77% of the entire population. The statistics place the country as a regional Internet leader, besting most countries in the Middle East in terms of subscription, usage and freedom of access. This underpins how the social media enjoys strong popularity in the country, figuring prominently in recent upheavals such as the 2013 unrest. Depending on the point of view, such role could be positive or negative. But, for the purposes of this paper, this role is most certainly beneficial. It highlights the potency of social media as a communication tool and its ability to persuade or influence VIVA’s market to action. This proposal is divided into four parts: the objectives of the study, the literature review, methodology and the method of analysis. The first section outlines four proposed research goals. The literature review section cites and analyzes the available sources that cover the theoretical and empirical work on social media and its capability as public relations tool. The materials used include secondary and primary sources, consisted of documents published by the organization as well as books, journals and online content.

In which we discussed the theoretical background of learning theories and learning styles. We hope our work will be appreciated. Summary Being HR consultant we have developed a report for our client. First of all we have discuss that how learning theories can help organization during human resource development. After discussing its importance we discuss the different learning styles of learners that how individual learns. We discuss the theories of David Kolb and honey and Mumford learning styles. Furthermore we explain and discuss the three different learning theories such as cognitive, behaviorist learning theories. Beside this we have also define the impact of learning curve and transfer of learning to work place. In order to complete this assignment we collect data from our course book human resource development and employee relation and similarly from different websites. All the references can be seen at the end of report. Task for P: 1 Discuss the different learning styles including (activists, reflectors, theorists, pragmatists) As we know that there are different type of learning styles developed from Psychological and educational research. According to these researches different people learn differently from one another. According to (http://www.ics.heacademy.ac.uk) these learning approaches help trainer to understand an individual learning preferences, so s/he effectively convey his training. Further they explain that some student may prefer to learn from visual effects while some may prefer or enjoy learning from listening lectures. There are many researcher and psychologist which contribute to this subject such as Kolb Learning Cycle, Honey and Mumford styles. (www.jivepartners.org.uk) Honey and Mumford styles: Activist: Activists learn best when they personally involve themselves in activity. They are called activist. They enjoy the here-and-now and often thrive in short-term crisis situation. According to our course book of (human resource development and employee relation.) Such kind of people get bore with long term implementation and consolidation. Activist learners are open-minded, not sceptical, and this tends to make them enthusiastic about new work. They think that they can do anything, beside this activist first act and then think. Reflectors: According to our course book (human resource development and employee relation.) Reflectors are the learners which learn best from activities where they are able to stand back, listen and observe. They like collecting information and being given opportunity to think about it. Reflectors learn less when they are rushed into things without the opportunity to plan. Before starting any activity, first they analyze the situation from all angles. Pragmatist: Pragmatists are keen on trying out ideas, theories and techniques to see if they work in practice. They positively search out new ideas and take the first opportunity to experiment with applications. They are the type of people who return from courses brimming with new ideas that they want to try out in practice. They like to get on with things and act quickly and confidently on ideas that attract them. (human resource development and employee relation.) Theorist: Its mention in our (human resource development and employee relation.) Course books that theorist like to understand the theory behind the actions. Such kind of learners need model. Concepts, and fact in order to learn they like to analyze and synthesis, and feel uncomfortable with subjective judgment. Further its mention that they learn best when an activity is backed up by ideas and concept that form a model system or theory. Such kind of learner learns least when activities are unstructured or ambiguous. Kolbs learning styles inventory: According to (http://www.ics.heacademy.ac.uk) David Kolb published his learning style model in 1984. The model gave rise to related term such as Kolbs experiential learning theory. In his book he also acknowledged the work of previous scholars such as Rogers, Jung and Piaget. He has done great work in this field and still acknowledged by teachers, trainer and managers. According to Kolb and other researcher that effective learning proceeds around a cycle. The below diagram clearly mentioned that how it processed. (http://bsspdl.wordpress.com/) According to article written by (kendra cherry, 2012)Psychologist and educational theorist DavidHYPERLINK http://psychology.about.com/od/profilesal/p/david-kolb.htm HYPERLINK http://psychology.about.com/od/profilesal/p/david-kolb.htmKolb present a four-stage learning cycle designed to describe how learning by experience takes place. Further she explained that the experientialHYPERLINK http://psychology.about.com/od/educationalpsychology/a/experiential-learning.htm HYPERLINK http://psychology.about.com/od/educationalpsychology/a/experiential-learning.htmlearning cycle have four different stages, concrete experience, reflective observation, abstract conceptualization, and active experimentation. From these stages four learning style have been identified, accommodator, divergers, assimilator and converger. Accommodator relies on concrete experience and active experimentation learns from hands on experience and more rely on other people for information. Divergers learn from concrete expe rience and reflective observation. Assimilator combine abstract conceptualization observation; understand a wide range of information and more interested abstract ideas and concepts. Task for P 2 Discuss the learning theories e.g. behaviorist, cognitive etc: Behaviorist theory: In an article written by (kendra cherry, 2012) its mentioned that the term behaviorism refers to the school of psychology founded by John B. Watson based on the belief that behaviors can be measured, trained, and changed. Beside this there are some other scientists which contribute a lot to the field of psychology. The concept or theory of behaviorism is very exciting. According to our course book (human resource development and employee relation.)Behaviorism is a theory of learning and it believes that all behaviors are acquired as a result of conditioning. Conditioning happen after a  person interacts with his environment. There are two type of conditioning classical conditioning and operant conditioning. In 1904 Ivan Pavlov a Russian scientist researched on dogs. His researched proved that dog salivated at the sight of dry food. If a buzzer sounded just before the dogs were given sight of the dry food they still salivated at the sight of the food. After the two were associated a number of time, the dog salivated at the sound of the buzzer, even before the food appeared. Therefore, it can be claimed that the dog had learnt to salivate at the sound of buzzer. Pavlov called the presentation of the food unconditioned stimuli and the salivation the unconditioned response. He regarded the association of the food with buzzer as conditional stimulus. Cognitive theory: According to article written by (kendra cherry, 2012)Cognitive psychology is the branch of psychology which deals with mental processes including how people think, perceive, remember and learn. There are different people which done a lot of work on cognitive theory such as jean Piaget, Wilhelm Wundt and many more. There are a lot of differences between behaviorist and cognitive theory for example behaviorist generally ignores the internal dynamic of learning while cognitive learning theory stress on the importance of what goes on inside the learner. Cognitive theory is assumed to be comprised of a number of sub theories and is widely used in educational and counseling. The key to learning and changing is the individuals cognition (perception, thought, memory and way of processing and structuring information). Cognitive learning a highly active process largely directed by the individual, involve perceiving the information, interpreting it based on what is already known, and then recognizing the information into new insight or understanding. Cognitive theorist, unlike behaviorists, maintains that reward is not necessary for learning. More important are learners goal and expectation, which create disequilibrium, imbalance, and tension that motivate them to act Social learning approach: According to article written by (kendra cherry, 2012) there also another theory proposed by psychologist alburt bandura His theory suggest that children learn new behavior from observing other people There are three primary principles at the center of public studying concept. First is the concept that people can learn through observation. Next is the concept that inner psychological declares are an important aspect of this procedure. Lastly, this concept identifies that just because something has been discovered; it does not mean that it will result in a change of behavior or actions. The below diagram will help us in understanding these theories and how these help us during training and development of human resource. There are different methods through which we learn. Task for P3 Discuss the impact of the learning curve and transfer of learning to the work place. The learning curve definition: A learning curve is a graph showing the relationship between the time spent in learning and the level of competence attained. Hence it describe the progress and variable pace of learning (it is common for people to say that they are on a steep learning curve when they have to acquire a lot of new knowledge or skill in short period of time. (human resource development and employee relation.) Explanation: From the above definition its clear that learning curve is a concept used to determine how quickly a skill can be perfectly understood. The learning curve is represented through graph which shows the connection between learning and its duration. It also shows that how much skill or knowledge is improved of individuals from training. There is also concept of flat curve or gradual learning curve. Its important to say that on flat curve learner gain knowledge slowly. Flat curve subjects take a long time to gain complete mastery over, but provide ample time to truly imprint the procedures or skill components on the brain. Subjects with a gradual or flat curve are often very difficult to learn, as they do not provide the rewards of quick, usable knowledge. According to our course book (human resource development and employee relation.)Learning curve also used to plan the size of the chunks to be taught in one session or stage of learning. Further it explains that learning curve can also go up and down. This happen normally when trainee become unable to practice or forget newly acquired skill or knowledge. Transfer of learning: Definition: According to our course book of (human resource development and employee relation.) Transfers of learning refer to the extent to which newly learned information or skill has been transferred from the learning context to the application of a specific task. Explanation: Transfer of learning mean that how much an individual or trainee effectively able to apply the skill or knowledge on the job, which s (he) learned from training. In a situation where trainee effectively transfers the learning to task is called positive transfer; on the other hand in a situation where trainee didnt effectively transfer the learning to the application of task, will know as negative transfer.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Entertainment Essay

Present day entertainments are either good or bad or ugly. Advantages: good ones with pure fun, frolic, knowledge dissemination through various media keep us in good moods, healthy thoughts and entertained. Bad ones can be ignored by matured audience or readers but nonetheless, they leave a bad impression on our minds. The ugly ones are those that border on vulgarism like hard core porno entertainments, horror movies or badly worded books or comics. Disadvantages: All the above will be of great disadvantage if any form of entertainment is not used moderately and on a selective basis by those who seek fun and laughter. Any kind of entertainment, good or bad, will be bad for children who get addicted to any kind of habit, become couch potatoes and finally end up with obesity, lack of interest in studies and finally become a burden to the society. Portable entertainment devices, such as: Mp3 or DVD-players, which allow people to listen to music or watch films, are now commonplace. What do you think are the main advantages anddisadvantages of this development? Nowadays, products of hi-tech like a Mp3 or DVD-players become to be parts of the humans’ life. In my opinion, these technologies have merits and demerits. People use these modern techniques everywhere and any time because they are portable, compact and may contain a lot of info compared with diskets or tape recording. For example, we can take Mp3 or DVD-players with us during the travelling or going to somewhere. And these devices don’t claim more place than oldest. Moreover, we are able to record not only music or movies, but also educational programmes. These type of technologies have some opportunities. For instance, it can work without electricity and it is easy to handle. Besides, they have additional devices earphones in order not to distract other people. On the other hand, Mp3 or DVD-players have some drawbacks. I mean, they cause sometimes incidents (stray off the environmental around). As an example, while crossing the street or driving transport facilities, which even be reason for an accident. To sum up, I agree that today Mp3 or DVD-players play a great role in human’s life. And these easy movable techniques have both advantages and disadvantages. However, I think that there are more merits than demerits. I also made it so that â€Å"human† is used as an adjective. It is not wrong the way you did it, but this change makes it sound nicer. You can always just say â€Å"going somewhere† and not going to somewhere. For example, we can take Mp3 or DVD-players with us during the travelling or going somewhere. A Day of My Life

It was a fine morning, soothing breezes were moving at a sluggish pace, and clouds filled the sky like slowly dissipating smoke after a huge explosion. I was driving my car at a speed of 40 mph. This beautiful scenario had restricted my adrenaline rush and I didn’t feel like hitting the accelerator. I just wanted to make the most of this beautiful time. I turned the radio on and fortunately a soothing melody hit my ears. All these factors were quite unusual for the place where I lived. Weather here was usually quite hot and irritating.Suddenly I realized I was getting late, I had promised my parents to be at the venue in time. But it seemed like once again I was going to miss the party. This thought brought out all my childhood memories in the foreground, all the time I had spent with my parents, all the love, all the care I had enjoyed. That unconditional love is very rare in this world; I realized this fact when I moved away from my parents. Everyone, at some point or the othe r, has to take some important decisions regarding his life. I did the same. I wanted to be an independent, self-reliant person and for that I had to make the most of any opportunity that knocked my door. Unfortunately the job offer I got was for another city, almost 250 miles away from where I actually lived with my parents. So I had to move away, rather unwillingly. It started drizzling and those droplets like diamonds started to fall on the windscreen. This was quite significantly positive addition to the beauty of the current scenario. This light rain reminded me of all the time I had enjoyed in the rain with my mom and dad. They knew I loved rain so much, it made me so happy. And just for the sake of my happiness, they used to take me out to my favorite places whenever the weather was nice. I still remember the time when I was in school and my mom used to wake me up every morning. Her face was the first thing I used to see every morning, and no doubt, my days went great. My dad us ed to drop me off to school every morning. He never leaved unless I waved my hand from the edge of the main gate of the school. These memories were making me feel good and equally sad. I just couldn’t wait till the moment I saw my parents again. I accelerated the speed a little. I was only 15 miles away from home now. It breathed a new life in me, as soon as I entered the limits of the area. Everything seemed so familiar, so known and strangely fascinating. I could relate to almost everything I saw. These shops, these buildings, these parks, these malls, everything reminded me of the time I had spend here. I suddenly saw a restaurant where I used to eat every Friday with my friends and then at walking distance was the theater where we used to come for movies after dinner at that restaurant. It all reminded me of the time I had spent with my classmates and friends, the parties we used to have, the little fights we had and then the childish patch-ups. It all sounded quite funny n ow.I was driving quite slowly once again. My surroundings fascinated me to the level that is hard to be described in words. The road was quite straight with so much of green on both sides of it; I had a memory of this road. Then I realized that this was where my school had been. It had changed quite so much, it was not that green back then.I saw the building of my school which had not changed at all, the main gate, the parks, the windows; everything had some memories attributed with it. I still remember how much I loved my school, may be because of my classmates. I loved being with my friends. I remember those never ending conversations we used to have, regarding movies, music, TV shows, food, new trends in fashion and so much more. All this was playing like a distant echo in my head.I could now see the block where my house was, my destination. My heart throbbed at the thought of seeing my parents and luckily some of my friends again. What I felt at that moment was a mix of exciteme nt and gloom. Both were for the same reason, I was going to see them after a long time.

Alkali Metal Definition (Chemistry)

Alkali metals are any of the elements found in Group IA of the periodic table  (the first column). Alkali metals are very reactive chemical species that readily lose their one valence electron to form ionic compounds with nonmetals. All elements in the alkali metal group occur in nature. List of Alkali Metals The alkali metals are: Lithium  (Li)Sodium (Na)Potassium  (K)Rubidium (Rb)Cesium  (Cs)Francium (Fr) The International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) excludes hydrogen (H) as an alkali metal because it occurs as a gas under ordinary temperatures and pressures. However, hydrogen displays many of the properties associated with elements in the group and does become an alkali metal under extremely high pressure. Alkali Metal Properties Alkali metals are all soft, shiny reactive metals. Although they are soft enough to cut with a knife, exposing a bright surface, the metals react with water and air and quickly tarnish, so the pure metals are stored in an inert atmosphere or under oil to prevent oxidation. All of the metals react vigorously with water, with the energy of the reaction increasing as you move down the periodic table. None of the alkali metals exists free in nature: They are found as salts, forming crystals with the body-centered cubic structure. Sources Greenwood, Norman, and Alan Earnshaw.
